Hello My Friends,
Well it seems summer isn't going away quietly. Been pretty warm around here for the past week and looks to continue next week. Kids are in school or almost and life is starting to slow down here again. Summertime is a busy time at the sanctuary. There seems to always be a kid's camp or event or compassion group here. Volunteer shifts fill up with all our new faces and old veterans. It's a fun time but as the year turns and fall comes, we see a lot less of you, new and old. We get it, with school and the holidays we all get silly busy in the fall. We're still here though and the animals love seeing your smiling faces even if its rain soaked and muddy.
I don't have anything super important to pass along just a couple little things.
- The sheep and goats have just gotten over a bad bout of diarrhea. For the time being please do not feed them any treats unless cleared by the caregiver on duty. Also, no treats for Delilah and Victor. If you need to lure them out of their stall for cleaning, you can use Orchard Pellets.
- Ruminant volunteers, if you report for your shift and Delilah is still locked in her stall, please don't let her out until you check with the caregiver. She is on a special diet, and we want her to eat in the morning before she is let out.
- Enrichment volunteer or really anyone using the Dehydrators, please check that the top of the unit is clear before starting. The steam vents are on top and the unit will burn up if we have anything blocking them. If you are unsure what I mean, please ask Jen or myself.
- The bridge is coming along quite nicely and is almost passable. Hoping only a couple more weeks and we can all stop dodging cranes and speeding dump trucks.
That's it, I know not much of an update but its been a really lazy summer week. Everyone is in decent health. Victor is pretty gimpy and its taking more effort to get him up and moving in the morning. Same goes for Charlie pig. He has been slow to rise, and not a fan of walking much. The heat might have something to do with it but also remember he is 17yrs old. Make sure if your down NARN way you pop in and say hi to them.
Ok that's it, I drug this out as long as I possibly could, took all my babbling skills to pull this off. Have an outstanding weekend and week ahead, I hope to see you all out here a couple more times before the fall rains come. You are all amazing humans and we are so lucky to have you as part of our team.
Stay Awesome!
