Hello Everyone,

How are you all doing? I was all set to go into a rant about this terrible summer weather and then today happened. What a beautiful day it is out here, sun is out, it's the perfect temp and the animals are frolicking all over the place. No way you can be grumpy on a day like today, I'm trying, and I can't do it. I only have a couple updates for you today and no trigger warnings thankfully.

  • We had a minor incident with Victor and a volunteer last week. Nobody got hurt but Victor being Victor likes to send people sprawling on the ground. Due to his size he can be intimidating for some and maybe he feeds off that a bit. We all need to remember that Vic isn't locked in the play yard anymore. He has access to the whole NARN yard. With this knowledge as you enter the yard it would be a good practice to first locate him. What we absolutely don't want is anyone to bring food past him while he is free roaming. If he is hanging out at the inside gate of the barn go through Charlie and Otie's yard. Don't try and push or move him, he will think it's a game and you'll lose. If you are uncomfortable around him, either stay out of the yard when he's there or contact the caregiver to see if you can get help locking him in the play area.
  • The most obvious goings on around here is the construction. Be patient and cautious when navigating the temporary road. Make eye contact with the equipment operators before you try and go around them if they are in your way. They have been very accommodating and will move if they see you. This is scheduled to go on for at least another month so patience please.
  • We have a ton of apples and plums in the fridges between the enrichment room and the people barn. If anyone has time it would be a big help to have these cut and placed into the dehydrators in the enrichment room. We don't want to lose any of them so a consistent flow in and out will save us from having them go to waste. If you haven't used a dehydrator before let Jen or myself know and we can walk you through it.
  • Last update and a fun one is Shirley got new roommates. If you have time when you come out here, stop by its fun to watch. He looks so much happier, and more energetic. The new ladies have given him a fresh step, and a renewed sense of purpose. It's a good look for the old guy.

Ok that's it for another week. It looks like we have a great weekend weather wise lining up for us. Sunday will be hot here so make sure if your coming out to bring water and don't overdo it. Take breaks and enjoy a popsicle or two, I'm sure our furry friends wouldn't mind one also. Not a bad way to spend a day I think.

Have a great weekend and week ahead. All of us here are extremely thankful and appreciative of all your hard work. Which reminds me don't forget about the Volunteer picnic next weekend, I really hope to see you all there.

Stay Amazing!
