Hello everyone,
I hope you all have weathered the wildfire smoke ok. For those of us with breathing difficulties this hasn't been a fun time. It was pretty bad here for a couple days and I can't say I'm sorry to see it go. I feel terrible for everyone over on the east side though and as much as I hated the smoke, I can endure it if the winds shifting gave them a few lighter days.
I have a few things I need to pass on this week; a new procedural update for the enrichment room, adoptions & intakes and unfortunately a passing. We will be kind of all over the place with this one so might as well get er done.
- For the glorious Enrichment room volunteers! You probably have noticed the changes to the enrichment room over the past few weeks. We are reorganizing a little and trying to find a better way of keeping track of our supplies. There is a new SOP, and I will be sending that to you today so look for it in your email. A copy will be posted in the Enrichment room. If you have any questions, please let me or Jen know.
- On the adoption front, Sylvie and Sienna went to their new home last Thursday and Carlos went to his yesterday. I told you about the girls, but I had no idea about Carlos until the adopter showed up so I apologize for giving zero notice on that one. This is Carlos's second try, and I hope he behaves himself a little better than last time. I swear I heard him say "Don't hate the player, hate the game" as he was leaving............See you buddy.
- I get to let you all in on some breaking news which is awesome. I just got word we have a rescue of an unspecified number of cats (20 or so) and a Llama next Tuesday. I heard that these are relocations from the fires so not sure if they will stay or return once the fires abate. The Llama will be going over to Reiner, and the cats of course will head to the healing barn. The details are a little sketchy right now. As soon as I know anything more concrete, I will let you know.
- It's always sad when we lose someone but especially sad when they have been here for a long time. Picasso our little pocket Rooster crossed over the Rainbow Bridge last Wednesday. He had been living with Marek's disease for a long time, but unfortunately it progressed into his nervous system, and we had to say goodbye. He lived a long, happy life, and he will be missed by all of us-and especially by Sonja.
- The summer is winding down and fall / winter will be here before you know it. If you haven't been out in awhile now is the time. The sun is out and its beautiful. If you can't make it out for a shift, try and make it next Saturday for the volunteer picnic. We are having a vegan taco & Nacho bar that I promise will be amazing. If you haven't been to one of these before, this where you get to bring a family member or friend and show them the Sanctuary and also meet the rest of your volunteer family and caregiver's in a much more low key setting. For those that volunteer away from the sanctuary or those that haven't seen the whole place I will be leading a tour at 1:45. Your more than welcome to join me or walk on your own at your own pace. It all kicks off at 1pm at Pasado's House. If you want to come there is an RSVP tab on the volunteer software, super simple, nothing to fill out, just hit the button and Jen will be in touch. If there is a problem with the site, you can email Jen directly and let her know.
