Hello my Friends,
Ok I said a couple of posts ago I was hoping to get into a steadier flow of updates and stop being so on again off again. That obviously didn't happen but Its been a very busy time here for us. The end of summer brings a flurry of Compassion groups, volunteers, and of course the mighty Celebration of Love. For those that volunteered to help that evening move and flow so smoothly and be so successful, a truly heartfelt thank you. Jen and I couldn't have been happier and more impressed by all you're efforts. Such an amazing night and you were a huge part of it. Those that didn't get a chance to volunteer but want to know what all the fuss was about, stay tuned for COL 2026.
I don't have too many updates this week, so without further ado.
- Update to the HPAI protocol we initiated last week. Well not so much an update but more of a clarification. The only change everyone needs to worry about is no more footbaths and tire spraying at the front gate. Just come on in, no need to mess with any of that anymore. Everything else stays the same. All bird enclosures are still off limits "Staff Only" yards. The only exception is if Jen schedules you for a deep clean on Saturday. Enrichment is still over the fence only. I apologize if the post last week was a bit confusing on this topic. The footbaths that are around the sanctuary are for you to be able to clean your boots if needed.
- For the enrichment volunteers, I am working on the spoon toys and millet holders so they can be used in the Aviary and for the Old Barn Chickens. I just have to extend the length, my first try failed. The chickens are a little more aggressive than I thought and ripped the chain I used. I over thought that and should have just stuck with the twine that we normally use. The items will be hung up on the rack next to the dehydrators.
- Final update and I'm sorry it's a sad one. I know some of you are aware already, Harvee chicken crossed the rainbow bridge on her own last Friday evening. She was our dear Bernadette's best friend before she passed last year. She was about 11 years old and had lived here for the past 9yrs. Rest in peace sweet girl you will be missed.
Ok that's about it for this week. I hope you all are able to get out and enjoy this weather. I keep thinking the rainy days are here for good, and then we get a couple really nice 70 + days. Sunday looks like it's going to be nice along with next week. Great time for you all to get out here and bask in what little sun we have left this year.
Have a great weekend and week ahead, thank you all for the amazing energy you bring to this place.
Stay Amazing!
