Hello My Friends,
Not much happened last week, that's why no update Friday. This week however is a different story. The weather is pretty awesome if you like it all over the place. Rainy, cold, sunny, sorta not cold, beautiful starry nights, really cold. I love the changing of the seasons.
We have a few important updates that will impact most of you. Let's start this off right:
We have a major farm adoption happening this Saturday, Hazel & Myrtle cow will be heading to their new home and loving family. If having 2 cows adopted isn't exciting enough, joining them will be Dan & Aqua sheep. A lot of you might remember Aqua, she was one of our Turkey Sheep living with Clarence and Opal. When Clarence passed away her and Opal were moved over to our Reiner facility with the Johne's herd. That's where Dan lives. Most of you have never met him, which is a shame. He is a beautiful sheep, very curious and very personable. Dan came to us from another Sanctuary. That sanctuary rescued him along with 2 others (Sarah & Henry) from a pretty terrible situation but once it was revealed they all had Johne's they had no choice but to euthanize them. They couldn't take the risk of infecting their sheep. However fortune smiled on the three, the sanctuary heard we had a yard dedicated to Johne's animals. It was a perfect fit for us so of course we took them in. Really great continuation of their story. Dan and Aqua both have the disease which is easily spreadable to other sheep and goats. It's passed through their feces and can live outside the host in the ground for over a year. The fact that an adopter is willing to take them home knowing this is a pretty amazing thing. I was fortunate to be on the team that went over to the other sanctuary and rescued Dan, Henry and Sarah from the horse trailer they were living in. I've watched them all flourish here, especially Dan. I'm happy for him but also will miss him a lot.
My next update is very bittersweet, more bitter though. For our long time dog volunteers sadly, an old friend is coming back. Freddy will be returning on Tuesday. For those that don't know Freddy he is a lovable high energy jumping machine and was here for over 2yrs. He was adopted almost a year and a half ago, which adds to the heartbreak. I can't speak to the reason his adopter is returning him, but I can say that Pasado's offered to help pay for a behaviorist if they would keep working with him, but It wasn't enough. He will go first to the healing barn to get checked out and then make his way back to dog town. He will need a lot of love and patience from us and especially those that were close to him before he left. I will let everyone know when he moves back up to dog town.
Last update and it's a fun one. Frank our glorious Turkey will be roaming the NARN yard most days from here on out. He will stay in his space for tours and events but on normal days he will be hanging with Victor and company. This is a work in progress, and we are not totally sure how he will react to people. This might be short lived or the new thing, I don't know. We will be watching him close and are super hopefully this works, and he becomes a fixture in the NARN yard. Still though its Frank and he is known for being a bit..........I don't know........cranky maybe. Just be aware and report any signs of aggressive behavior to us or the caregivers. Give him a wide berth and don't walk up and try to give him a hug, you'll get a giant gnarly turkey foot right in the chest.
Ok I that's it. It's currently pouring outside which I think they said will last through June. If you're coming out this weekend expect it to be a little mucky and dress accordingly. Have a great weekend and week ahead. Hopefully we will see all your soggy lovely muddy faces out here soon.
Stay Amazing!
